Aluminium

Aluminum finds its way into the packaging industry, especially in the form of foils & trays / trays. The main reason for this is that they are extremely resistant to oven temperatures. Aluminum is not a cheap packaging raw material, plastic is considerably cheaper, which is why you do not see the aluminum trays & trays very much compared to plastic.

As you can see, aluminum is a great alternative to the ubiquitous plastics in the packaging world, but you should be aware that it is a material with a specific user benefit.

Recycling

+ can handle large temperature differences
+ has good heat conduction (great for in the oven)
+ great barrier properties (taste stays where it should belong)
+ reflective (sun resistant)
+ non-toxic
+ light
+ easily recyclable

– it is expensive,
– cannot be put in the microwave
– not transparent so you cannot see the packaged product.
